One question: why should we vigorously develop the wood and bamboo industry?
Wood and bamboo industry is the leading industry of China's forestry industry, and also an indispensable livelihood industry to improve people's quality of life. It has a very important basic position in the national economic and social development.
Ye Kelin said that accelerating the green development of the wood and bamboo industry is of great significance to ensuring the national timber security, promoting the structural reform of the supply side, consolidating the achievements in poverty alleviation, practicing the development concept of "green water and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains", and meeting the people's demand for a better life.
Since the new century, China's wood and bamboo industry has maintained a strong momentum of development, and has become the world's largest The output of wood-based panels, furniture, flooring, wooden doors and bamboo products ranks first in the world. In 2019, the total output value of China's forestry industry will reach 7.56 trillion yuan. Among them, the total output value of wood and bamboo industry exceeds 3 trillion yuan, which has become an important pillar of modern forestry industry in China.
Wood and bamboo products usually include logs (bamboo), sawn timber, wood-based panels, wood furniture, wooden doors and windows, wood floors, cabinets and wardrobes. When talking about safeguarding the national timber security, ye Kelin said that the wood resources of developed countries in the world mainly come from natural forests or intensively managed plantations. China should break through the technology of wood resources development and efficient utilization.
Ye Kelin said that first of all, we should carry out early prediction of wood properties and evaluation of processing performance around the implementation of major forestry projects such as national fast-growing and high-yield forests, strategic reserve forests and accurate improvement of forest quality, so as to improve the quality and performance of domestic wood from the source.
At the same time, it is necessary to explore new resources and tap the potential of efficient utilization of existing resources, innovate the efficient processing and utilization technologies of bulk imported wood and domestic plantation wood, as well as the processing and utilization technology of bamboo and rattan, non used wood, recycled wood and crop straw, so as to increase the effective supply of resources and strengthen the industrial supply chain.

Fourth question: what are the disadvantages of wood and bamboo industry?
With the development of a new generation of information technology, big data, Internet of things, artificial intelligence, robots, green manufacturing and other technologies are promoting the transformation and upgrading of bamboo industry to green production and intelligent manufacturing.
However, at present, the competitiveness of China's wood and bamboo products in the middle and high-end markets at home and abroad is not strong, and the product performance and application services are still difficult to meet the needs of national economy, social development and residents' consumption upgrading.
Ye Kelin said that the main problems are: first, the shortage of wood resources and the instability of the supply chain. The results of the Ninth National Forest Resources Inventory showed that the domestic commercial timber was mainly from plantation, the average DBH of plantation was only 12 cm, and the area proportion of young and middle aged forest was as high as 70.4%; Low quality wood is more than high quality wood; There are more softwood and less hardwood; Generally, there are more trees and less precious wood, and there are less large diameter timber and precious timber for buildings and furniture. The structural contradiction between supply and demand of wood is very prominent, which is difficult to meet the huge demand of the consumer market.
Second, the performance of materials and products is not high, and the international competitiveness is not strong. China's wood and bamboo enterprises are generally not strong in technological innovation. The wood and bamboo materials and products processed and manufactured are mainly used in indoor and non load-bearing structures, rarely used in outdoor exposure and building structures and other fields with high weather resistance / strength requirements. China exports nearly $40 billion of wood and bamboo products every year, mainly supplying building materials supermarkets to meet the needs of medium and low-end.
Third, the level of green safety manufacturing is not high, and enterprises are under great pressure.
Fourth, manual, mechanization and automation coexist, and the production efficiency is not high. The wood and bamboo industry has been in the development stage of low entry threshold, small enterprise scale and relatively low profit level for a long time.
Fifth, the application of basic research is weak, and the ability to support technological innovation is not strong. The basic research based on wood structure and performance, multi-source big data informatics utilization and other basic research is in the initial stage, and there is a big gap between intelligent manufacturing and smart home application.
Sixth, the integration and investment of science and technology resources are insufficient, and the ability of industrial technological innovation needs to be improved. Independent intellectual property rights in key core technology fields are weak, innovation resources are relatively scattered, scientific research facilities and instruments are mostly concentrated in universities and scientific research institutions, lack of sharing, low efficiency, and lagging cross-border integration. Industrial technology innovation platform is not strong and talent is insufficient.
Five questions: how to make up for the lack of innovation ability?
Ye Kelin said that China's wood and bamboo industry innovation talents, scientific research instruments and equipment and other resources, mainly concentrated in two national forestry research institutions and 12 agricultural and forestry universities, scientific research institutions and universities are still the main body of industrial scientific and technological innovation. Enterprises play the role of transformation and application of scientific and technological achievements, and engineering innovation resources are mainly concentrated in more than 50 national high-tech enterprises. The most advanced core technologies of China's wood and bamboo industry, such as continuous hot pressing and numerical control processing, are mainly imported from abroad. In the organization of industrial technology innovation activities, the "secondary innovation" carried out by scientific research institutions, universities and enterprises has played a positive role.
